Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett is known for his love of wah pedals. He has over 200 of them in his collection, and he uses them extensively in his solos. However, his go-to wah pedal for the studio is not his signature Cry Baby pedal.
In a recent interview with Guitar World, Hammett revealed that his favorite wah pedal is the DB01B Dimebag Cry Baby From Hell Wah. This pedal was made in collaboration with the late Dimebag Darrell, and it is known for its aggressive sound.
Watch the interview below:
"It's the greatest wah, for me, that's ever been made," Hammett said. "It's got a lot of balls and a lot of character."
Hammett said that he uses the Dimebag Cry Baby wah pedal on a lot of Metallica songs, including "Enter Sandman" and "Master of Puppets." He also said that he uses it on his solo albums, such as "Portals."
"It's a great pedal for getting that aggressive, metal sound," Hammett said. "But it's also versatile enough to be used for other genres of music."
The Dimebag Cry Baby wah pedal is not cheap. It retails for around $300. However, Hammett said that it is worth the investment for any guitarist who wants to get the best wah sound possible.
"It's a pedal that will last you a lifetime," he said. "And it will make your solos sound killer."
In addition to the Dimebag Cry Baby wah pedal, Hammett also uses a variety of other wah pedals in his rig. These include the Dunlop Cry Baby Classic, the Ibanez WH10, and the MXR Phase 90.
Hammett is a wah pedal connoisseur, and he is always experimenting with new pedals. He is constantly looking for the perfect wah sound, and he is not afraid to try out new things.
"I'm always looking for new wah pedals," he said. "I'm always trying to find that perfect sound."
Hammett's love of wah pedals is evident in his playing. His solos are full of wah effects, and he uses them to create a wide range of sounds. From the aggressive wah of "Enter Sandman" to the soulful wah of "Nothing Else Matters," Hammett's wah pedals are an essential part of his sound.
